What to expect
Counselling involves meeting to determine what you would like to work through and how you would like things to be different, and then working towards your goals. During the first few sessions there is an opportunity for you to share your story. The counsellor will ask you questions and explore with you in a safe, supportive environment. Information is collected about your current life, your strengths, core values, resources, current patterns, and about the family you grew up in. This helps to develop a therapeutic plan that best fits your current situation. The counsellor will then share observations and begin addressing your concerns. As you begin this process of self-exploration and discovery, it is a common reaction to feel worse before feeling better. Please remember this is a temporary experience, one that your counsellor will support you through.
